Norma Schimpf

Mom had been battling osteoporosis for many years and suffered three fractures of her back, but then she started feeling really weak for about a year before she had a bone marrow biopsy and was diagnosed with MDS. Then, in the Fall of 2020 she fell and fractured her back again and the pain from that fracture and the rather quick progression of MDS took her from us after only four months.

My Mom was known and loved for many things, but everyone loved her cooking and baking. She made the best chicken and dumplings and her piecrust had no equal. Her absence is felt around the dinner table at every family meal. She is missed by her lifelong friends some of which have known her since grade school in the 1930s. She was loved by my Dad, Gib, who left us way too soon in 1971 when he was only 42. She was also loved by her husband, Walter, who cherished her as well. She was a strong woman and very independent and managed everything that life threw at her even the curve balls of osteoporosis and MDS. My wish is to honor her life by living mine to the fullest even though her absence is painful and hard to endure.

– Her daughter, Pam Betine
